Will 2020 exist in your life camera roll?
We open our phones and see all of our pictures laid out before us. They're even broken down by year, by month, we can pinpoint what we were doing during these moments in time. Who we were with, where we were, what we were doing. Perhaps you're the organized type that has already pared them down. Or maybe you're like me, buying extra cloud space because the deleting task seems too daunting.
My 2020 roll is not empty.
Is yours?
I bet it's not.
We have trained for years to show a certain version of life on social media. I've never been a fan of that, but it still happens. We share the good. Sometimes intentionally and sometimes because we don't want to relive the bad through a post and conversation.
I think people are feeling the divide deepen. They are still seeing people living Insta-perfect lives as they struggle with the day-to-day.
You may feel alone. But I don't believe your mental camera roll is empty. Sure it may look different--sweatpants over styled outfits, spilt milk over sipped champagne, but I bet you'll also find a friend who made you smile by reaching out even from a distance or your children who amazed you with their creativity. Or yourself. Maybe you were able to step back and feel pride in yourself.
These moments are happening. And we only get so many moments here on earth.
Maybe the camera roll in your mind will snap fewer memories this year and that's okay, but make sure that memory maker isn't turned off. 2020 deserves a place.
